VANS X HOCKEY ANDREW ALLEN HI IN NEW COLORWAYS AND MATERIALS
Hockey and Vans have prepped pro skater Andrew Allen‘s Authentic Hi in two new colorways: bright red and crisp white. A follow-up to Allen’s debut Authentic Hi from April 2020, this new duo offers more than just cosmetic makeovers for Allen’s signature sneaker — it also boasts brand-new Vans skateboarding tech that can stand up to Allen’s demanding on-board style.
Everything Andrew Allen does on a skateboard is done with a little more grit than most other skaters can muster. Allen’s skateboarding is raw and rugged, with his give-no-fucks attitude on full display whenever he sets foot on his board. This uncompromising attitude makes Allen a perfect fit at Hockey Skateboards and translates seamlessly onto his Vans x Hockey Authentic Hi.
Features of the Authentic Hi
Each upper is crafted of classic canvas, assembled on a new last for a better fit and feel. Under this contrast-stitched canvas build, there’s a Duracap underlay that’s built to withstand the withering effects of a skateboard’s griptape. It’s built with a new production method that elimates “hot spots” where heat and friction build up over the course of a skate session. There’s also a rubber ollie pad on the lateral forefoot, plus molded heel counters and tongue straps to lock the wearer’s foot in place.
Branding is largely kept to a minimum, but Hockey’s signature rabid dog is embroidered on each shoe’s lateral collar and Allen’s name is present on the inner collar. Vans hits arrive via a small checkerboard midfoot tag and a “shatter” heel badge for another callout to Hockey’s graphics. Midsoles and outsoles may look simple but are loaded with tech. Two-part foxing on the midsole enhances durability, Vans’ new Sick Stick rubber compound guarantees great grip and PopCush footbeds return energy without bottoming out.
Midsoles and outsoles are packed just as full of tech as their counterparts, with two-part foxing offering a heavier knurl on toe bumpers that are designed to tackle heavy skate sessions. Heel tags also provide a “shatter” print for a nod to one of Hockey’s most famous graphics. Outsoles feature Sick Stick, Vans’ new proprietary gum rubber compound that supplies grip, feel, and longevity. Inside the shoe, PopCush footbeds offer snappy, responsive energy return that won’t pack out, ensuring the shoes — and the wearer’s legs — will stay fresh session after session.
