Last Resort AB D2
Last Resort AB D2
The latest venture and the start of dream number four by Polar Skate Co. founder Pontus Alv and long-time friend, skateboarder and creative director Sami Tolppi, Last Resort AB is an independent company with a focused vision to create skate shoes crafted by and for skateboarders all around the world. With no corporate backing and complete creative freedom, the duo has no one telling them what to do and don’t believe you should either.
Who is the team responsible for the Last Resort AB D2?
Having introduced Swedish skateboarder, abstract artist and jacket enthusiast Ludvig Håkansson to the Last Resort AB skate team in January 2020, we’ve been keeping our eye on the slow but steady reveal in Last Resort’s character, but to keep us on our toes the duo isn’t giving away anything before its time. Accompanying Chris Millic, co-founder of NYC based Frog Skateboards and native Californian Nick Rios, the addition of Håkansson hints at an international collective being formed with individuals who are developing their own sense of self through skateboarding, creativity and launching independent labels. In the hope of pulling skateboarding away from capitalist culture, or at least creating their own creative havens away from the mainstream, the team selection builds upon the idea of building great things together which is in tune with like-minded supporters wanting to back smaller, personal brands as well as their favourite skaters.
What are the characteristics of Pontus Alv?
Marking the start of 2021, the Last Resort AB D2 release shows developments within colour across the signature Last Resort AB VM011 in addition to a new hi-top variant being introduced, the Last Resort VM001-Hi. Maintaining all of the core ingredients as its predecessor such as double-stitched panels in danger zones, a modified snug fit, foxing tape of a specific thickness and a slanted sole pattern that won’t collect gravel, the Last Resort AB VM001-Hi is the duo’s own take on a retro-inspired raised silhouette to which they have added their own function and personality. Reiterating their belief in independence and removing restrictions that are so often imposed by the expectations of others and society, lettering reading ‘Break Free’ has been embossed on the back of either ankle that may be subtle but provides a powerful message.
Does the Last Resort AB line also have sweatshirts?
For those interested in Last Resort AB clothing, European made 100% cotton hoodies, short and long sleeve t-shirts decorated with statement graphics have also arrived, in addition to a plush Last Resort AB Double Fold Merino Beanie and crew-length Last Resort AB Eye Socks that will keep you covered during skate sessions and outings through the year ahead.
Last Resort AB, value and design for skaters
Suitable for repurposing and re-imagining to suit your needs, Last Resort AB designs act as elevated classics that are familiar but with enhancements that have been chosen as a clear reaction of the founding duo’s vast experiences as life-long skateboarders. Additional evidence of Sami’s time spent as a creative director, graphic designer and creator of his footwear line ‘3-3-20’ a couple of years ago is also apparent and works in perfect harmony with Alv’s well-known creative eye and belief in DIY skate culture. Encouraging friends and independent brands within the skate industry to get together and create something new. Last Resort AB proves the value and sense in skateboarders designing their own products and doing so with attention to community and culture.
